在武汉中学的毕业实习

My Graduation Internship at Wuhan Middle School

大四开学没多久，我们就被分到不同的几个学校开始毕业实习。我有幸被分到武汉中学，一所有着革命光环的中学，开国领袖董必武创办的学校。

Shortly after the start of my senior year, we were assigned to various schools for our graduation internship. I was fortunate enough to be placed at Wuhan Middle School — an institution with a revolutionary heritage, founded by Dong Biwu, a founding leader of the People's Republic of China.

我和一个女同学被分到了一个班上，每天就是听课，写教案，再过一段时间，就开始上课。

A female classmate and I were assigned to the same class. Our days consisted of observing lessons, writing teaching plans, and eventually taking over classes ourselves. 

我们的指导老师是另外一个班的班主任，听了几节课以后，就放手让我们接手了。

Our supervising teacher, who also served as the homeroom teacher for another class, gave us free rein after just a few observations. 

我的班主任也很信任我，在实习结束以后以家委会的名义让我在那里继续做了课外辅导，一直到第二年春天要忙毕业论文以后才结束。这是有些报酬的，我的生活条件从那时起就开始逐渐有了改善。

My homeroom teacher trusted me deeply; after the internship concluded, he invited me—through the Parent Committee—to continue providing extracurricular tutoring. I stayed on until the following spring, when I had to return to focus on my graduation thesis. This position came with a stipend, and it was from that point onward that my living conditions began to gradually improve.

实习期间我们是住在武汉中学的。为了改善伙食，我们会在学校外面的小饭馆吃饭，几个人合资点菜，平摊下来每个人花不了多少钱，还能吃得舒服。

During the internship, we lived on the school campus. To improve our meals, we would eat at small restaurants near the school. A group of us would chip in for dishes, splitting the cost so that each person paid very little while still eating well.

晚上休息之前，我们会在外面街道上闲逛。几个女生一起，我和另外一个男生就充当护花使者，在后面跟着。武汉中学所在的地方，在古代就是人来人往的热闹之地。97年的时候，各地夜市经济开始蓬勃兴起，学校外面的粮道街和中华路上格外热闹，人鱼混杂，有两个保镖，女孩子们也就可以放心大胆地闲逛了。

Before turning in for the night, we would wander the streets. The girls would walk together, while another male student and I acted as "bodyguards," trailing behind them. The area surrounding Wuhan Middle School has been a bustling hub since ancient times. By 1997, the local night market economy was booming, making the nearby Liangdao Street and Zhonghua Road particularly lively and crowded. With two escorts along, the girls could stroll around without worry, despite the mix of people.

实习对我来说，印象最深刻的是那些小屁孩们。他们刚刚走进中学，所以把我们这些实习老师都当成是哥哥姐姐，所以格外放肆。指导老师不跟班的时候，他们会在教室里跑来跑去，好像这不是上课时间一样。后来抓了几个典型，那些调皮捣蛋的小屁孩才安分下来。也正是因为这样，班主任才在实习结束后让我继续给他们课后辅导。

What left the deepest impression on me during the internship was those young students. They had just entered middle school and treated us interns like older siblings, which made them exceptionally rowdy. Whenever the supervising teacher wasn't around, they would run wild in the classroom as if it weren't even class time. It wasn’t until I made examples of a few ringleaders that the mischief subsided. It was largely because of this that the homeroom teacher asked me to stay on for after-school tutoring.

这些孩子们曾经到学校找过我。两个小家伙一看到我就飞奔而来，差点把我扑倒在地。每每想起那一幕幕，总是开心地笑着。

Those children once came to visit me at school. Two of them sprinted toward me the moment they saw me, nearly knocking me to the ground. Even now, thinking back on those scenes always brings a smile to my face.

回忆总是美好的，这就是我的毕业实习。

Memories are always beautiful. Such was my graduation internship.
